Recommendation Methodology

How our product guides are built — and what we don’t claim.

What we weigh

Our guides start from a specific sleep problem (for example, side sleepers who need a supportive pillow, or apartment dwellers dealing with noise). For each, we consider objective, non-volatile factors such as:

  • How well a product’s design fits the problem it’s meant to solve.
  • Relevant, stable product attributes (materials, adjustability, size options).
  • Alignment with general sleep-science principles around light, noise, temperature, and support.
  • Breadth of availability so recommendations are practical to buy.

What we deliberately exclude

  • Affiliate commission plays no role in whether a product is included or how it’s ranked.
  • We do not store prices, star ratings, or review counts — these change constantly and belong on the retailer’s page.
  • We do not claim to have personally lab-tested every product; where we haven’t done hands-on testing, we don’t pretend otherwise.

The limits of our research

Recommendations are editorial judgments to help you narrow choices — not medical advice, and not a guarantee of results. Sleep is individual. The best way to find what works for you is to start with the factors you can control. Our free Sleep Environment Score quiz is a good starting point, and our buying guides go deeper by problem.
